Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan in Sambalpur, Odisha, in the presence of Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram on June 20th, 2016. A total of 20 LPG connections were released to women from BPL households under the scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, conceived by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is a welfare measure to benefit poor women of the country. And Odisha is among the states with least penetration of LPG. Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana alone aims to provide 30 Lakh new LPG Connections in the State.
